INTO University of Newcastle Foundation Program

The INTO Newcastle Foundation program prepares you for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate course at Newcastle University or at other UK universities. It is designed as a bridge between your secondary school education and undergraduate studies in the UK, and is validated by the University. Progression to Newcastle University is guaranteed, subject to successful completion of the relevant Foundation pathway and meeting the specified grades for entry to your selected degree program.

Five subject-specific pathways prepare you for entry to a wide variety of subjects including degree program in architecture1, business, law, social sciences, humanities, engineering, natural sciences and biological and biomedical sciences. You can only start the architectural pathway in September. The INTO Newcastle Foundation program has two start dates (September and January), which both lead into the first year of an undergraduate degree program.

Program Features

The INTO Newcastle Foundation prepares you for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate course at university. The INTO Newcastle University Foundation program has five pathways in Architecture, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, and Biological and Biomedical Sciences, and offers assured progression onto over 120 degree program at Newcastle University.

If you have completed secondary school education in your own country, the INTO Newcastle Foundation program provides academic preparation comparable to UK A-levels and also ensures that you meet the minimum English language requirement for entry to your chosen undergraduate degree program. In some circumstances, you may be able to enrol on the Foundation program in order to change your specialist subject. The program combines academic study, intensive English language preparation, study skills and a cultural orientation.

As well as offering direct entry to a wide range of degree program at Newcastle University, successful completion of the Foundation program (subject to meeting specific academic and English language entry requirements) also prepares you for undergraduate study at other top UK universities.

This is a campus-based, quality-assured academic program that offers, subject to achieving the specified grades for entry, guaranteed progression to the first year of a relevant Newcastle University undergraduate degree program or placement at another UK university. Students studying at the INTO Centre are granted full university status allowing access to all of the University’s excellent facilities and services. INTO offers high levels of personal care and 24-hour support ensuring that you can focus on your studies and achieve your true potential.

If you successfully complete the relevant Foundation program at INTO Newcastle University, and meet the specified grades for entry to your selected degree program, you are guaranteed progression onto the first year of an undergraduate degree program at Newcastle University. Students who complete the Foundation program will also qualify to apply for entry to other universities in the UK.

Subjects and Majors

Foundation in Architecture

Newcastle has one of the largest and most dynamic Architecture school of its kind in Europe. Architecture at Newcastle is ranked ninth in The Times Good University Guide 2009. The School’s teaching program are accredited by and have recognition from:

  • The Royal Institute of British Architects
  • The Royal Town Planning Institute
  • The Institute of Historic Building Conservation
  • Architects Registration Board.

This INTO Newcastle foundation program is leading to the degree BA (Hons) Architectural Studies. This is a design-led program involving extensive studio work. Students who do not achieve the level required for entry to Architecture will be considered for the BA (Hons) in Town Planning. There will only be a September intake for the Architecture pathway. Places are limited on this popular program and will be in very high demand, so early application is advised.

Foundation in Business and Management

This INTO Newcastle foundation route prepares business and management students for single and joint honours degree program in Business and related subjects.
