Joining the Lancaster Foundation Year guarantees that you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at the Lancaster University. During the Foundation Programme year you will also have the opportunity to meet some of the Link tutors, who are lecturers at the University. Your Link tutor will teach you on your undergraduate degree course, and answer any questions you may have on your degree choice. These tutors, together with the Lancaster ISC team of language and subject specialists, will help you as much as possible and make sure you have the support you need to progress to the degree of your choice. We will constantly monitor your progress through regular assessments, to keep you on the right course for your university study.

About International Foundation Year

The Lancaster International Foundation Year is a rigorous and academically demanding three-term course of academic subjects, study skills and English language training designed specifically to provide international students with an intensive, direct path to degree study at the University. It will ensure you gain the skills and knowledge to succeed in your degree.

You can choose one of four Foundation routes:

  • Business & Management Studies
  • Engineering & Computing
  • Law & Social Studies

All Lancaster Foundation routes are modular in structure. There are five core modules common to each route: English Skills 1, English Skills 2, Study Skills, Project Study and Maths. You will also study specific subject modules, each carefully designed to focus on the academic areas most useful to your chosen degree.

Once you have successfully completed the Lancaster International Foundation Year you can proceed directly to your undergraduate degree at Lancaster that autumn. The required pass mark will depend on your chosen degree course. In order to progress to the degree programme you will need to obtain an overall grade at the end of your course, and a minimum English grade on the final English Skills module.
