Newcastle University is a member of the Russell Group, the association of the 20 leading research-intensive UK universities. We have one of the largest European Union research portfolios in the UK and have research links with many other countries.
In 2009 we were amongst the top 10 higher education institutions in the UK for income from UK research council awards, and attracted £87.8 million through new research grants and contracts. Prestigious awards such as the Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education recognize the quality of our research.
Newcastle University Business School is one of an elite group of only 128 schools worldwide who have attained the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) badge conferred by the European Foundation for Management Development.
91% of our 2009 UK and EU graduates progressed to employment or further study within the first six months of graduating. Almost three quarters of our graduates entering employment achieved a graduate level position. We were ranked 12th in the 2011 Sunday Times University Guide for numbers of students in graduate level jobs.
League Table Ranking
Newcastle is ranked in the global top 200 universities in both the Times Higher Education (THE) and QS rankings published in 2010. The THE placed Newcastle 152nd equal overall, and 56th equal in Europe. Fewer than 30 British universities appear in the table. The QS table placed Newcastle 140th, a rise of 18 places on the previous year.
The Sunday Times league table of UK Universities places Newcastle in 20th place (out of 121).
We were one of just five universities shortlisted for ‘University of the Year 2010’ by Times Higher Education, the influential UK magazine for academic and other professional staff in universities and colleges
