A law degree is certainly considered a smart career move as it commands status, prestige, employment and promotion prospects and it often has a good or even large income attached to it. Singapore Law is heavily influence by the English law, in areas such as contract, Tort and Restitution than in other statue based areas such as criminal law, company law and the law of evidence. Singapore lawyers may perform both as an advocate and a solicitor.
Studying Law in the UK gets you a 3 year undergraduate degree which is an LLB. With this academic qualification one is not allow to practice as a lawyer. But once the academic qualification is completed, there comes the spilt of being a solicitor or barrister. It takes one academic year to complete the bar vocational course. Successful students will be called to the bar a professional qualification to practice as a lawyer.

Law Degrees Recognized by Singapore Bar
In February 2009, the Ministry for Law has made changes to the legal education framework. Law graduates from universities in the United Kingdom or Australia should satisfy the following conditions for the purpose of admission to the Singapore Bar:
- they have obtained their law degrees from one of following universities
- they have to complete Part A and Part B of the Bar Examination
- they have to fulfil a 12 months training contract
External law degrees obtained from any overseas university in or after 1996 should no longer be recognised for the purpose of admission to the Singapore Bar.
