Credit Exemptions for Polytechnic Diploma

Credit exemption (also known as advanced standing) allows students to receive credit for relevant prior studies, reducing the number of modules required to complete a university degree. This means you can graduate faster and save on tuition fees.

How Credit Exemption Works

Credit exemptions are assessed individually by each university and typically depend on:

  • Relevance of your diploma modules to the degree you are applying for
  • Your GPA performance

To support the assessment, universities will usually require:

  • Your latest academic transcripts
  • Your course syllabus or module outlines

What Can You Expect?

Some universities have established articulation agreements with Singapore’s five polytechnics. Depending on your diploma, chosen course, and GPA, you may receive:

  • Up to 2 years of credit exemption
  • Typically 1 to 1.5 years of exemption for students with a good GPA

This applies across a wide range of degree programmes, including:

  • Business
  • Science
  • Information Technology
  • Engineering
  • Art & Design

Important Notes: Credit exemptions are granted on a case-by-case basis. Law and Medicine degrees do not offer credit exemptions
