This New Zealand degree upgrade programme for registered nurses is based on the principles of: Adult teaching and learning; Cultural safety; Evidence based practise; Caring and Reflective thinking. These, along with the nursing knowledge and research components of the degree, provide a basis for the ongoing development of professional practice for registered nurses. The academic programme of study has a strong practice focus, and is applicable to a broad range of practice settings. UCOL is a ninstitute of technology, funded by the New Zealand government. It delivers applied learning in technical, vocational and professional fields. UCOL itself is one of New Zealand’s leading tertiary education institutions. It offers a wide range of qualification levels: masters, degrees, diplomas and certificates. The School of Nursing is one of UCOL’s largest schools. Currently we have more than 500 nurses based on four sites: Palmerston North, Masterton, Whanganui, and Gisborne (in conjunction with Tairawhiti Polytechnic).
The programme leads to the award of a Bachelor of Nursing degree, and entry into the Nursing Council of New Zealand State Finals examination. Our students have an excellent record in passing this examination on their first attempt. Graduates surveys indicate that UCOL graduates are in demand throughout New Zealand and overseas.
UCOL will provide 120 hours of FREE Engilsh Language tuition in either OET or IELTS to help international student meet the NCNZ requirements for registration.
